Geneva Lake Sailing School Update
This month has been a good one for me as I started my position as Executive Director of Sailing for a great set of sailing organizations. The GLSS and LGYC have incredibly rich and strong traditions of sailing excellence that continues today. I am glad to be a part of it.
Inland sailing has run in my family's blood for four generations now. My son, Augie, sails an Opti and X and it is fun to see him challenged by the shifting winds on these Inland lakes. This fall showed just how much those challenges can help a sailor along the path excellence as we had two Inland Lakes sailors win their Olympic Trials. Sally Barkow and Jon Ruf, have secured their spots on the Olympic and Para Olympic teams. It is just great to see them succeed.
Four years ago I was training and competing for one of those spots alongside them, all of us finished third in our trials. It was a disappointment not to have made it into the Olympics at the time but as Jon and Sally showed us it's just a matter of perseverence. I decided not to go back into Olympic level competition and since that time I've married. Hannah my wife and I are very happily settling into life as a couple and as parents to my son. To top it off I'm now able to work with you all and share my life's passion.
I look forward to seeing you all on the water this spring and summer,
Kevin
