Program Summary

Description

This class will provide high level boat handling, sail trim and tactical instruction in preparation for the Junior Olympic Events, US National Junior Sailing Championships, High School and College Sailing. Sailors will learn specifics regarding weight placement, sail shape and fitness for peak performance. Designed for sailors looking to reach their full potential, this class is can be taken in concert with the X-boat racing class and or those with summer jobs. Coaching in regional competitions to provide support while students test their progress. Space is limited so please sign up early.

Typical Week

- Monday Morning, Rigging and Tuning advice will be given on shore followed by boat handling intensive drills.  Wednesday 4:30-6 sailors will prepare their boats and go through race preparation, practice starts and other drills intended to prepare sailors for evening racing from 6:30-8.
*Boat must be rigged and ready by practice time. Coaches are available to assist.

Regattas

The team trains for a summer-long schedule of competitions which include regattas (multi-race events) and clinics on other lakes. Parents receive support in preparing for these events, minimum of three teams must attend in order to have coaching support.

Curriculum

Goals of the 420/Laser Advanced Curriculum include:

  • Preparing for Safe and Sportsmanlike sailing on an National/International level
  • Developing and Maintaining Teamwork and Positive Attitude
  • Increasing Physical Conditioning and Nutrition Awareness
  • Learning Proper Sail Trim and use of controls in variable conditions
  • Understanding race procedures and rules
  • Advanced boathandling - incl. roll tacks and roll gybes
  • Formulating race and regatta strategy
  • Having fun

Recognition

Sailors will have numerous opportunities to challenge themselves in competitions and events. Awards based on achievement, sportsmanship and work ethic will be given out at these events.
