Description

We are very excited to introduce this new course to provide another level of training for our competitive youth sailors. This class will provide high level boathandling, sail trim and tactical instruction. Sailors will learn specifics regarding weight placement, sail shape and fitness for peak performance. Designed for sailors looking to reach their full potential, this class is scheduled to allow X-boaters and those with summer jobs to participate. Coaching in regional competitions to provide support while students test their progress. Space is limited so please sign up early.

Typical Week

- Tuesday: 420/Laser Practice - 5pm-8pm
- Thursday: 420 and Laser Practice Races - 5pm-8pm
*Boat must be rigged and ready by practice time. Coaches are available to assist.

Regattas

The team trains for a summer-long schedule of competitions which include regattas (multi-race events) and clinics on other lakes. Parents receive support in preparing for these events.

- June 20-22, 2008: Midwest Junior Olympic Festival, Lake Forest, IL
- June 28,29, 2008: ILYA Youth Championships, Mendota, WI
- July 9, 2008: DinghyFest Regatta, Invitational (Geneva)

Curriculum

Goals of the 420/Laser Advanced Curriculum include:

  • Preparing for Safe and Sportsmanlike sailing
  • Teamwork and Positive Attitude
  • Physical Conditioning and Nutrition
  • Proper sail trim and use of controls in variable condition
  • Understanding race procedures and rules
  • Advanced boathandling - incl. roll tacks and roll gybes
  • Formulating race and regatta strategy
  • Having fun

Recognition

Sailors will have numerous opportunities to challenge themselves in competitions and events. Awards based on achievement, sportsmanship and work ethic will be given out at these events.
