What makes a sailing school meaningful?

Kids today have more opportunities and activties than one could possibly imagine.

The question is this: what will distinguish a meaningful youth program in the 21st century? It's a youth program with a true purpose to make a difference in the lives of kids. That describes the Geneva Lake Sailing School.

How can we say we make a difference?

Six ways:

1) Proven track record. The GLSS has been providing youth sailing since 1938. We are not a fad. We are a rock-solid institution in our community, and practically a landmark. Our graduates have gone on to countless championships on the water and in life. Our sailors are good people. Our people are winners.

2) We provide a unique experience. Our lessons of sailing offer kids a rare blend. Sailing is a unique lifetime skill, it instills social values such as teamwork and self-confidence. And we offer an uncommon interaction with nature.

3) We give kids exceptional opportunities to do great things. There is no-limit to the places kids can go, and the challenges they can tackle. Olympic sailing is a reality for ANY child: boy or girl.

4) Talented Staffing. Starting at the top, the GLSS continually strives to provide the finest instructional talent pool around. We're not camp counselors, we're professionals. We give kids great people to look up to in sailing and in life.

5) Outstanding resources. From top to bottom, our program can deliver the best possible resources, from a world-class facility with America's Cup champion sailors and a high-caliber sailing environment. And, we have the backdrop of Geneva Lake as our classroom.

6) Desire. We have a Desire to to shape the future. To do more than offer a sport.

We do all of this as a non-profit organization. And in that we mean, it's never our goal to earn more than we invest into our mission for kids. That's why we need your help.

Our current priorities include...

- Boat / Facility Upgrades: Includes Premium training boats, improved Launch and storage facilities, classroom maintenance, and safety equipment upgrades and replacement.

- Educational Improvement: Instructor training by US Sailing, National Sailing Programs Symposium, assorted clinics and training material.

- Scholarships for Kids: grants-in-aid, community programs, working with less fortunate children, sailing workshops.

- Growing the Annual Fund: Unrestricted support provides long-term stability for the future of this organization.
