OUR SAILORS IN THE NEWS
7 boats joined BMRT at the second installment of the Melges 15 winter series on Merritt Island, FL. A record breaking 107 boat fleet gathered there facing strong northerly breeze. Our best finishers were Maria Castle and Jacob Bowman in 23rd place overall and 5th among female skippers, Kevin and Caroline Alcock 33rd overall and 3rd in grand masters category.

Orange Bowl Regatta at Coral Reef Yacht Club in Miami. Our top performers were Mason Keane, who finished 4th among 221 Optimists from 13 countries and Oliver Gray placing 11th in the ILCA 4 class. 7 green fleeters lead by BMRT head coach Marek Valasek battled 72 sailors in moderate breeze, and they learned how to cope with the challenging choppy conditions of Biscayne Bay.

Top sailors from the Worlds and Continental (European, N & S. American, Asian & Oceanian and African) Championships were invited to compete at the event that took place in Limassol, Cyprus. Mason, who earned is ticket the North Americans, finished 28th in the competition of 45 best Optimists in the world.
Summer Sailing Programs at GLSS have concluded for the year, but there are still opportunities to enjoy Geneva Lake. Out adult sailing instructors continue to run private lessons on the Sonar, there are three sessions available every day, and we will continue as long as the weather allows us to comfortably sail. We are also starting the fall BMRT Series, offering practices in Optimist and ILCA classes. The ILCA practices will be directed by Maru Urban, an internationally acclaimed coach and former advisor to the US Olympic Team. The Optimist program will be led by the BMRT Head Coach Marek Valasek.

At the end of the season, BMRT will organize Oktoberfest Regatta, a traditional farewell to the sailing season. As usual, we will run races for Optimists, ILCA, Melges 14s and this year we will also add Melges 15 class to the event. There are no age restrictions for the M14 and 15 classes, everyone is welcome to compete and enjoy the festivities, including a Saturday chili cookout.
