The Geneva Lake Sailing School is one of the most prominent, active, and highest achieving programs in the Midwest. We provide an opportunity to learn and hone skills that will last a lifetime. The Sailing School teaches youth to have fun, develop good personal character, and compete at the local and national level events.
Each summer GLSS runs Summer Sailing Camps with a wide range of programs from learn-to-sail to advanced racing. Our Sailing School has a reputation for developing some of the finest young skippers in the nation with emphasis on sailing in a manner that is safe, fun, and exciting. The Summer Sailing Camp is an ideal way to get new sailors and their families engaged in a lifestyle on the Lake. We hope that the sailors who learn to sail during the Summer Camp will come back and continue developing their skills ultimately becoming members of our racing team.
Summer sailing programs are available to children ages 4 to 17 who have a desire to learn to sail or improve their present sailing skills and follow the program rules. In order to enroll, all participants must be able to swim and be in generally good health.
A wide range of programs is offered that address all levels of sailing. Parents should select the program that is appropriate for their child. If there are any questions our staff will be happy to work with you to determine the program that is best suited to your child. All programs include instructional meetings, followed by sailing practice, lots of play time around the Club and in the Lake and other fun activities.
Our program utilizes a variety of boats that are selected to best suit the need of each class. Beginners will use Prams and Collegiate 420s and take rides on our fleet of Sonars. Intermediate and Learn to Race level programs sail in the Optimists and Club 420s. Our racing team specializes in X Boats, Melges 14s and Optimist Dinghies. We also use a variety of GLSS boats and windsurfers including O’Pen Bics and X Boats in the Reacher programs.
The summer staff is comprised of members of our racing team and returning high school and collegiate sailors, many of whom learned to sail and race at the Geneva Lake Sailing School. We also hire professionals from other areas looking for an opportunity to become a part of our team.
To provide the highest level of instructions while maintaining a safe learning environment, we keep a low student to instructor ratio. That means that the space in the Summer Camps is limited. Please complete the online application and waivers with full payment to reserve a spot. In the event of cancellation prior to the start of a session, fees will be refunded less processing fees. There will be 50% refund for cancellations made within a week from the first day of the Camp and no refunds after the start of the session.
