Optimist Learn to Race is an intermediate course and is the next step up from Opti Camp. The classes run Monday- Friday 9am - 12pm. The sailors will learn all fundamental skills necessary to join our Racing Team.

One of the most important aspect of the program is to help the participants become self sufficient and confident in all aspect of sailing.

Sailors rig and launch by themselves while the instructors provide assistance whenever  needed. Once on the water each sailor operates the boat alone. The drills used in practices allow the participants to master boat handling in all points of sail and ultimately sail around a racecourse without. We also teach the sailor the most important Racing Rules of Sailing and the principals of sportsmanship that we adhere to. 

 

Once the sailors are ready to compete, they can start racing in Club races, GLSS Dinghyfest and the ILYA Championship regatta.
